Polavaram project sets a new Guinness world record

Polavaram project, which is being described as the lifeline of Andhra Pradesh, is all set to enter the Guinness World Records on Monday with the execution of 28,000 to 30,000 cubic metres of concrete work by Navayuga Engineering Company Limited (NECL). Hectic activity is being witnessed at the project site with the irrigation officials and NECL staff are determined to achieve the unique feat. Concrete pouring which commenced at the project site at 8 am on Sunday, crossed halfway mark by 7 pm with the execution of 15,107 cubic metres of concrete work.


Guinness World Records representatives are recording the event using drone cameras. A team of civil engineering experts are overseeing the concrete pouring work and informing the Guinness representatives about the work progress on hourly-basis. The government machinery is also at the project site to witness the record-breaking event. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will visit the project site on Monday to witness the accomplishment of the record.


Participating in the Janmabhoomi Maa Vooru programme in Krishna district on Sunday, Naidu said that the multi-purpose Polavaram project is set to break all the records. “We are set to surpass the world concrete pouring record of 22,000 cubic metres on a single day by achieving the target of 28,000 cubic metres and more. The NECL has engaged nearly 900 workers, 20 agitator trucks and 70 transit mixers to transport concrete from 10 batching plants with a capacity of 1,560 cubic metres per hour to the site.
