An overcast sky coupled with light showers brought respite to citizens from weeks of sultry weather in the city. Many areas received close to 2mm rainfall in the city while some areas like Siripuram, Beach Road, MVP Colony, and core areas of the city received light showers, according to meteorologists from India Meteorological Department (IMD) and Cyclone Warning Centre (CWC), Visakhapatnam.

The sea conditions remained rough along the coast in the city. An iconic wheel of the Konark Temple, located on the beach road, fell off due to the waves lashing it on Friday. The wheel was erected at the beach in 2015 as part of a beautification drive. The weathermen attributed the sudden change in weather to the southwest monsoon which is slowly picking up momentum after taking a hiatus. The showers coincided with the earlier predictions of IMD that the city would again get rain by June 22.

IMD director YK Reddy from Hyderabad said the southwest monsoon resumed its activity from Friday and added that it would continue to remain strong for the next five days across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
