Former MP from Tirupati V. Varaprasada Rao has expressed the confidence that the Jana Sena Party (JSP) will extend support to his party during the next general elections.

In an informal chat with mediapersons here on Friday, Dr. Rao felt that JSP founder Pawan Kalyan, who had cosied up to TDP leader N. Chandrababu Naidu during the 2014 general elections, had been disenchanted with the latter for a variety of reasons.

“The JSP is not only unhappy with Mr. Naidu's inability to curtail corruption, but also his failure to bring Special Category Status (SCS) to Andhra Pradesh. Extending the same logic, I have a strong feeling that Mr. Pawan will extend support to Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy this time,” he said.

Dr. Rao had been closely associated with Praja Rajyam floated by film star K. Chiranjeevi, when he also had close working relations with his younger brother Pawan Kalyan. The former bureaucrat had also fought on the PRP ticket in vain for the Tirupati parliamentary constituency in 2009.

Accusing the TDP government of misrule and rampant corruption, Dr. Rao said he expected Mr. Pawan to take a formidable step in the “right direction”.
