Super Speciality Services On Ugadi By RIMS

Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) were started super-speciality surgeries on the special day of Ugadhi on Sunday.The Dr.Reddy, ed a team of orthopedicians who has a place  in the World Records Academy of US ,performing knee-replacement surgeries on four patients.“Old people having nagging knee pain need not put up with it as age is no bar,” said the RIMS Director and patted the team comprising scores of nurses and paramedical staff.


“For the first time in a government hospital, gold ceramic-coated knee joint, which enhances the implant’s longevity, has been used,” Dr.Narendra Reddy, who performed the surgery on then Health Minister Kamineni Srinivas, explained after performing the surgeries on the four patients in about two hours.Noting that a large number of patients in the fluorosis-affected district suffered from knee pain requiring surgery, Dr.Narendra Reddy donated 20 implants free of cost to RIMS.


Those with this implant could experience improved quality of life for another 25 to 30 years, said Dr.Reddy, who hailed from R.K.Palli, near Chandrasekharapuram in Prakasam district.


“RIMS will also perform other high-end surgeries, including minimally invasive arthroscopy surgery and spine surgery from now,” said head of orthopedics department M.Kishore Kumar. The treated patient could walk on the second day itself and get discharged from hospital on the third day, added orthopedician K.Bhaskar.


Stating that RIMS had also roped in cardiac surgeon Gopichand Mannam of Star Hospitals, Hyderabad, also a native of Prakasam district, Dr. Mastan Saheb said heart surgeries would be performed from next month. “RIMS will be developed into a model hospital providing specialised treatment for cancer, brain, colon and kidney ailments,” he added.


Five patients were in the waiting list for undergoing knee replacement surgery at the hospital, said orthopedic surgeon Dr.Sd.Kalam, after completion of the surgery successfully on Sk.Akbar (50), R.Koteswara Rao (55), Nagi Reddy (70) and Punnamma (55).
